WARNING: This video shows lizards getting bitten by snakes. Here are some clips of pygmy rattlesnakes striking little brown skinks. These were collected as part of our laboratory foraging study with centipede and lizard prey. The study was published in the Journal of Herpetology by Dianne McColl, Sarah Smiley and Terry Farrell:

Strike 1—a successful active foraging strike by the snake.
Strikes 2 & 3—these are examples of misses by the snake.
Strike 4—first a miss and then a hit that caused tail loss. The lizard did not show typical signs of envenomation after losing its tail.
Strike 5—A successful ambush strike from an outstretched posture.
Strike 6—An ambush posture strike that includes a short prey-holding before it was released.
Strike 7—A typical ambush strike from a typical foraging coil.
Strike 8—A strike from an active predation event.
Strike 9—Another strike from outstretched posture.
