This video was made on September 25th, near the start of the pygmy rattlesnake breeding season. The female I was videoing was soon joined by a male. After several minutes of tongue flicks and chin presses, he coiled right on top of her as is often the case with associated pairs of rattlesnakes. After the direct sun hit, he headed off and went beneath a palm frond soon to be followed by her. She shed her skin several hours after this was filmed (courtship is often associated with female ecdysis).
